- Take part in an exciting, young and successful organization. Minds Matter has grown 100% per year and plans to match that rate for the next few years. Our impact in the community is limited only by the financial support we receive. Every year we turn away eager applicants to the Minds Matter program due to lack of funding, and we need your help to change that!
Timing of Funds
Minds Matter of Boston is always raising money one year ahead of time. The money raised in the '09-'10 school year will go to '10-'11 program expenses.
Anticipated Use of Funds
The funds from any grants awarded to Minds Matter of Boston will be used primarily to fund the tuition and enrollment expenses of students attending summer programs and the direct costs incurred by Minds Matter to support weekly mentoring sessions. These direct costs include:
- SAT Program Instruction and Materials - Students receive tutoring from a Princeton Review instructor and all the necessary reference materials associated with the lessons free of charge. This includes prep guides, officially scored practice exams, and homework assignments.
- Peterson Summer Academic Program Guides - Students receive a guide of all of the summer programs offered by universities and prep schools throughout the country free of charge. The guide contains important information about the programs including: location, program length, application requirements, courses offered, cost, activities, etc.
- Fiske Guide to Colleges - Seniors receive a guide of more than 500 schools including: range of SAT and ACT scores, percentage of financial aid, number of applicants and percentage of acceptance, rating of academics, each school's strongest programs, and campus culture and lifestyle.
- Strunk and White's The Elements of Style - Each student receives The Elements of Style to use in conjunction with our writing program.
- Transportation costs - The majority of our students take public transportation to the Children's Museum every Saturday. Since their student passes do not work on weekends, we preload Charlie Cards for them.
- Application Expenses - In the event that Minds Matter cannot secure a fee waiver for our students, Minds Matter covers the requisite application fees.
Impact of Your Sponsorship
Since Minds Matter is 100% volunteer run and meets in space donated by Citizens Schools in Boston, there are little overhead operating expenses. As such, Minds Matter would commit 100% of the funds received to directly benefit the students in the program. The bulk of these funds will go towards tuition to summer programs and enrollment expenses. Students receive funding that covers tuition and room and board from three sources: individual program financial aid, Minds Matter, and the student's family. A typical breakdown for funding from these three sources is as follows:
| Program Cost | Program Financial Aid | Minds Matter | Family Contribution |
| $3,500 | $2,000 | $1,500 | $0 |
Students incur additional expenses such as, but not limited to: books, supplies, entertainment and travel to and from the program. Minds Matter typically provides students with an additional $150 stipend to cover these expenses.
Minds Matter's primary objective is to have all students accepted into an accredited summer course for Prep Program students and an accredited 4-year institution for our Senior Program students. We aim to provide each student with enough funding to limit family contribution to travel and entertainment expenses.
